About the Author

Angela D. Coleman is an award-winning social entrepreneur, African American Matchmaker, and published author. As the founding President of Sisterhood Agenda, she is recognized as an international expert regarding the social, cultural and health issues that affect Black women and girls.

Ms. Coleman grew up in Newark, New Jersey. She graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology and a minor in African American Studies. Ms. Coleman also earned a Nonprofit Management Certificate from Duke University in and a Masters in Business (MBA) from the University of Phoenix. She earned additional certificates from the Institute of African Holistic Medicine & Science and The North Carolina Board of Natural Hair Care & Holistic Science.

In 1994, Ms. Coleman founded Sisterhood Agenda, a nonprofit organization created to uplift and aid in the self-development of women and girls of African descent, a unique population with special needs. Angela was the editor of Sisterhood Agenda Magazine and is currently its primary blog contributor. As Sisterhood Agenda’s President for over 18 years, she established over 3,000 partnerships all over the world including those in the U.S., Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and India.

Recognized for the national and global scale of her work, Ms. Coleman is an Ashoka Fellow and has been featured in ESSENCE, Jet, Teacher Magazine, Adolescence, Princeton Alumni Weekly, Phoenix Focus, Nex Generation, The Star Ledger, Virgin Islands Daily News, and Perspective.

Ms. Coleman is the author of the Black Girls Guide book series, Beautiful. and A Journey Toward Womanhood. In 2012, she launched African American Matchmaking, to help Black people find loving relationships with each other. Ms. Coleman currently resides in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, the home of Sisterhood Agenda’s Global Training Academy. There, she enjoys consulting, training, writing, exercising, listening to music, traveling and swimming in the ocean.



About the Book

Black Girls Guide is a “how to” publication with purpose. What is the purpose? To inspire Black girls to be bold, bright, sassy, daring, confident, and successful.

In the process, we illuminate the journey through womanhood with:
